Help Needed to Pass Out Holiday Stockings

We Need Volunteers!
We have an amazing opportunity for volunteers at the VA Hospital right here in Detroit!
This rewarding experience will allow you to visit hospitalized veterans and hand-deliver holiday stockings.  A fantastic way to say "thank you" to veterans of all generations!
For just an hour of your time, you will have a volunteer experience you won't easily forget.
Upon sign up, one of our volunteers will reach out to you and provide specific information related to meeting location and parking and can answer any additional questions you might have before your visit.
If you have questions prior to signing up, please do not hesitate to ask.
Volunteers Will:
  • Hand out holiday stockings to hospitalized veterans
  • Ample opportunities to shake the hands of veterans of all eras and say "Thank you!"
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, you will be doing a lot of walking throughout the Hospital.

National Wreaths Across America Day is December 14th

Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization that has coordinated laying Christmas wreaths on Veteran's graves every year since 2007. Their mission involves honoring and remembering Veterans around the holiday season. You can get involved and volunteer to lay wreaths!


Veterans need Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) to access bases for commissary/BX/MWR privileges

The Defense Department has announced expanded Commissary, Military Service Exchange and MWR access for Veterans on Jan. 1 and established a standard for physical access to military installations.


K9s for Warriors provides service dogs for Post-9/11 Veterans

K9s for Warriors is a non-profit organization that provides trained service dogs for Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma related to their service. The group helps to end Veteran suicide and to restore dignity and independence to those who have served in the military.

As Christmas draws near, Army Veteran Wayne Hanson reminds us to honor our Veterans during the holiday season. Every year on December 14th, Wreaths Across America celebrates Wreath Day by placing wreaths for fallen Veterans. Hanson discusses his work with Wreaths Across America and his desire to help these fallen soldiers be remembered.
