I hope that this email finds our membership in good health and looking forward to a brighter year. The covid-19 has put a strain/stopper on our meetings and our activities for sure. I apologize for the lack of communication during this pandemic. Hopefully, 2021 will be a better year and we will be able to resume a regular schedule by March or April (wishful thinking). I will provide an update and further information soon.
It is with heavy heart and sadness that I am announcing the passing of Jim Navin our dedicated Service Officer on December 24th, 2020. As one of our members quoted, Jim exemplified our American Legion Motto, "for God and Country". He will surely be missed by all who knew him and Grosse Pointe 303 and 1st District members. Jim was a dedicated volunteer at the Help Desk and other services at the John Dingle VA Hospital in Detroit. He always had a story and a smile for those veterans needing help or assistance. He faithfully attended our meetings with updated information on Veterans benefits and assisting our members with information regarding those benefits. We will miss him dearly and his keen sense of humor that was always with him. Jim was also an active member of our Veterans Art-Making Class. I have attached a picture of him at one of our last meetings (the first person on the left in front of the American Flag) and a photo. There will be a memorial gathering at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home in St. Claire Shores at 25800 Harper Ave on January 5, 2021 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Our Grosse Pointe Post 303 will be providing family and friends a special American Legion ceremony as part of the memorial service at 5:00 PM on January 5th. Please contact Post Commander Dan McCrary if you wish to be part of that ceremony at 313 492 7462. All Covid-19 rules will be followed.Jim Navin's daughter would like any condolences sent to her at:Jim NavinC/O Jennifer Wint6818 Country LaneDearborn Heights, MI 48127Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.Sincerely,Dan McCraryGrosse Pointe Post 303 Commander313 492 7462
