Michigan Boys State 2021 is going virtual

Post Commanders, and Adjutants,

The Michigan Boys State is going virtual for 2021

On March 29, the Department Executive Committee voted to approve a virtual program of Boys State. The cost per delegate will be $125, plus a $25 non-refundable registration fee. I am providing links to the application and a flyer for you to use for delegates.

The deadline is on May 28, 2021. The DEC is requiring that at least 100 delegates be registered by then for the program to be held.

What can delegates expect?

The program will be different from an in-person event in that concentration will be placed on the executive, legislative, and judicial state-level branches of government. Delegates will represent fictional cities, but the cities will not be in operation.

For the 2021 Virtual Boys State, all high school Juniors and Seniors are welcome to attend. However, only Junior Delegates will be considered for scholarship and Boys Nation participation.

The program will be five days, starting on Monday, June 14 at 9 a.m. and ending on Friday, June 18 in the afternoon after graduation. Delegates will gather via ZOOM from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day from their home, with an hour for a lunch break.

To receive credit delegates will need to be connected and participate in the program for at least ninety percent of the program. Delegates will need to have a computer, high-speed internet access, webcam, microphone, and a suitable environment for learning.
